Tektronix seeded Oregon’s Silicon Forest, the state’s high tech corridor in Washington County. Experts estimate that more than sixty companies have spun directly off Tektronix. The company, Elektros Inc., was launched in the early 1970s to build a special kind of electron microscope that Tek had researched but declined to manufacture. Portland State University physics professor emeritus Gertrude Rempfer lead the research and tells the story.
