Norman and Orlin Barton’s father worked in the woods, sometimes working a 2-man crosscut saw with Maxville loggers. Big trees were plentiful back then, and loggers often took just the lower portion of a falled tree – below the first limb – for a saw log. The rest of the tree would be left where it had fallen. Many of those unused sections were larger in diameter than the biggest trees growing there today.
