Sea Lion Study
California Sea Lions are invading Oregon's bays and estuaries. There is mounting concern the growing sea lion population is putting the survival of some endangered salmon and steelhead at risk. Oregon Fish and Wildlife is studying the Sea Lion population in an effort to better understand if certain individual's are more problematic.

Elk Rock in Willamette River
Millions of years ago, the Pacific Ocean covered the area where Portland now stands. An underwater volcano grew to a mountain the size of Mount Hood. That mountain is now the small outcropping known as Elk Rock Island — nearly all of its mass is buried in sediment and later lava flows.
