- Successful landscape painter Ann Ruttan usually focuses on Oregon scenery, but a lecture about Lewis and Clark inspired her to go farther afield. She traveled the Lewis and Clark Trail, seeking out locations mentioned in their journals, and created field paintings and photographs to bring back and turn into large finished canvasses. Some are painted from life, and others required her imagination to be portrayed as the first explorers saw them.

- Vocalist China Forbes has performed on the theatrical stage in New York, and in rock clubs as a singer-songwriter. In 1998 she relocated to Portland, Oregon to sing full time with Pink Martini. At first, she sang just a few songs with the internationally-inspired band, but she's evolved into a real front-woman. Art Beat visits with her at home and get a preview of some of the tunes on the new Pink Martini CD "Hang On, Little Tomato."

- Dancer Sahomi Tachibana

- Traditional Japanese dancer Sahomi Tachibana was born in California and studied Japanese dance at the Tachibana Dance School in Japan. After being interned during World War II, she studied modern dance and ballet in New York. In 1948 she made her New York debut and earned international acclaim. In 1990 Sahomi and her husband moved to Portland. Sahomi has continued to teach and perform Kabuki dramas and Japanese dances around the Portland area.
